Disney+ has announced that Disney and Pixar's popular animated film Elemental will be available on their streaming service starting Sept. 13. In addition to the film, the making-of documentary Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental and the short film Carl's Date will also be released on the same day.
The Elemental phenomenon
Elemental is an original animated film from Disney and Pixar that was released in theaters this summer and has achieved great success worldwide. With revenues of a whopping $480 million at the box office and a spot in the top 10 most successful films of 2023, it is a film you don't want to miss. The film is set in Element City, where residents of different elements live together: fire, water, earth and air. The story revolves around Ember, a fiery young woman with the voice of Leah Lewis, and Wade, a laid-back boy with the voice of Mamoudou Athie. Their friendship causes Ember to question her beliefs about the world she lives in. "Elemental" was directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream. The screenplay was written by John Hoberg, Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh.

A look behind the scenes: Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental
To give fans an even deeper insight into the creation of Elemental, Disney+ will also release the making-of documentary Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental. In this documentary, director Peter Sohn, known from other Pixar films, takes viewers on a personal and funny journey through the inspiration behind the animated film. He tells the story of his parents, who moved from Korea to New York, and how his choice of a career in animation came about. The documentary reveals the unexpected influences that helped create the comedy adventure Elemental. Good Chemistry is directed by Tony Kaplan and produced by Sureena Mann.
An additional treat: "Carl's Date"
In addition to the film and documentary, Disney+ will also release the short film Carl's Date, an entertaining addition to the Elemental universe. Carl's Date is written and directed by Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins. In this short film, we see Carl, a character previously seen in Elemental, who reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a friend. The problem is that Carl has no idea how dating works these days. Fortunately, his loyal friend Dug, the talking dog, comes to the rescue and gives him some tips on how to make friends. Carl's Date premiered June 21, along with Elemental, and is a great addition to the collection of short films called Dug Days, which can also be seen on Disney+.
